Robert L. Hunt grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, singing in Southern Baptist tent revivals. While country music played constantly in his early years, his sound was equally shaped by Motown, the British Invasion, and the Allman Brothers—still his benchmark for Southern rock.
He performed in the cover band High Tide and the original act Northwood with Chris Burnham and Ken Key before meeting Jon F. Anderson and guitarist Larry (“Goody”) Goodman. Robert then brought Jon and Goody together to form the rock band At Random. Following At Random, he performed with the unplugged Burnham, Seltz, and Hunt before forming the blues-rock band Getta Grip.
After Getta Grip, Robert continued writing with Jon F. Anderson and spent several years writing and recording country songs with Jakson Spires (“Thunderfoot”)—drummer, vocalist, songwriter, and a member of Jacksonville’s legendary Southern rock group Blackfoot. Spires recorded percussion, co-arranged, and produced material for Robert’s country album Bobby Lee. Though the album was never completed, new versions of the Bobby Lee tracks are currently planned for production and release.
